  27. We have tracked down why some people are having problems with the patched
  28. 7.0 debugger.
  29.  
  30. This problem occurs only when the patch is applied to a 6.0/6.0.1 debugger
  31. that has had the partition size changed by the user.
  32.  
  33. By default an application has a 'SIZE' resource ID -1. When the partition
  34. size is changed, the Finder creates a 'SIZE' ID 0 and a 'SIZE' ID 1 that
  35. are copies of the 'SIZE' ID -1 resource.  The 7.0 patch for the debugger
  36. modifies the 'SIZE' ID -1 resource and sets the High Level Event Aware flag
  37. (which the 7.0 debugger needs to run).  But, because the 'SIZE' ID 0 and
  38. 'SIZE' ID 1 resources are not changed by the patch, the state of the High
  39. Level Event Aware flag is inconsistent between the 'SIZE' ID -1 resource
  40. and the 'SIZE' ID 0 and 'SIZE' ID 1 resources - and the debugger hangs when
  41. launched.

  43. The fix is to either:
  44.  
  45. 1) Remove the 'SIZE' ID 0 and 'SIZE' ID 1 resources from the patched debugger.
  46.  
  47. or
  48.  
  49. 2) Reinstall the original THINK Debugger and run the patch on that
  50.  
  51.  
  52. The correct size of the patched debugger should be 84,884
  53.  
  54.  
  55. This problem might affect other parts of the system that have 'SIZE'
  56. resources (e.g. TPM) but at this point we do not think so because no other
  57. component has had the state of the High Level Event aware flag changed
  58. between 6.0/6.0.1 and 7.0.
  59.  
  60. If you have any other problems with components, you may want to reinstall
  61. the product before applying the patch.
